Challenge:
Public opposition threatened Household Financial's plan to build a Wal-Mart Supercenter and Kohl's Department Store in Delavan, WI . Among the vocal opponents was an alderman who owned a Ben Franklin arts and crafts store less than a mile from the project site.
Execution:
The Lynne Broydrick Group undertook an extensive communications campaign covering the entire community. The campaign uncovered a “silent majority” who welcomed the additional shopping opportunities and property tax revenues that the project would bring.
Result:
Residents began contacting their elected officials to back the project. The Lynne Broydrick Group mobilized supporters who packed public meetings, proving that public opinion was not as one-sided as officials had thought. Given the political backing they needed, the mayor and aldermen approved the project.
